Guilty Pleasures

When I handed Angus back to his mommy, she handed me a magazine. Not just any magazine, but the latest issue of US. She'd bought it at the airport to read on her flight home. Don't know about you, but I love trashy magazines. I never get a chance to read them unless I'm having my hair done so am usually content to scan the various covers while in line at the grocery store.

But, boy oh boy is reading one cover to cover so much fun!

From the fashions (who wore it best?), the pictures (Stars-they're just like us!) and the gossip, I had a fun time gobbling this magazine up. There was a two page picture of the cast of Heroes, even! But for someone who at one point in my life couldn't wait for her Entertainment Weekly to arrive in the mailbox, I felt so out of the world of pop culture and celebrity when they talked about new shows, stars and upcoming movies due out. That's what I get for living in a cave with no cable!

One article I really enjoyed was US picks the 20 Most Romantic DVDs. I agreed with some on their list. Eight of them I hadn't seen. But the list got me thinking. What were my favorite romantic movies? In no particular order, here are a few of mine:

• Pride and Prejudice
• Ever After
• Love Actually (Notting Hill, too)
• The Princess Bride
• While You Were Sleeping
• Pretty Woman
• The Cutting Edge
• Notorious
• Ladyhawke
• Somewhere in Time

What are some of your favorite romantic movies? I want to make a list of romantic movies to rent the next time hubby goes out of town. Help me out, please!

I think that one of Gywneth Paltrow's lesser known films is really good - Sliding Doors. I also love Four Weddings and a Funeral (and almost anything else Hugh Grant is in).

I can't to read what everyone else comes up with! I'm also looking for some good movies/shows to download to my IPod for an upcominng long flight - so far I have the 2nd season of Weeds, 3rd season of Entourage (I know, such a sexist show, but I love the Ari character!), the first two Bourne movies and two weeks of Jon Stewart.

The word verification is xsfbsrwf - phew! That's a long one!

The Way We Were
Sabrina
Gone With The Wind (have to be in the mood for)
An Officer and a Gentleman

Hmm, seems like I like the old movies

Good ones, guys!

I loved Sliding Doors, Tiffany! And I agree about Hugh movies, very romantic.

I can't believe I left off Titanic, Dru! Of course, I was thinking HEA with my list. Which would leave off a few on your list! Great list and all of which I've seen!

And old movies are the best. Roman Holiday, An Affair to Remember, the list goes on..

I know it's not a generic romance, but The Ghost and Mrs. Muir is a good one. I also enjoy While You Were Sleeping, Head Over Heals, Roxanne, Return to Me, Howl's Moving Castle, Sixteen Candles and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Most aren't very serious, but highly enjoyable. *g*

Oh, I don't know if I ever saw the movie The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, but I vaguely remember the tv show, Brandy.

Okay, three of those on your list I haven't seen. Head over heels, Howl's Moving Castle and My Big Fat Greek Wedding.

I really enjoyed Return to Me. I just wish they would have done more with the gorilla recognizing her heart. That was a thread they should have carried through a bit more, IMHO.

One of my favorite romantic comedies is Christmas in Connecticut. The original with Barbara Stanwyck, NOT the horrid remake with Dyan Cannon.

And that's all I can think of off the top of my head. Weird. *g*

I saw both of those Christmas in Connecticuts, Tori. I prefer the older one, too. The storyline so reminds me of the kind of romance I love to read!

Tori and Melissa, I agree with both of you. The original Christmas in Conneticut was the best of the two.
Melissa, you've never seen Head Over Heels? It's cute and funny. (I prefer my Romance movies that way, especially with the kids around!)
