The world of Internet forums is anonymous. You pick an avatar or user name and maybe where you live will come out or a few other things, but that's about it. You rarely know who you're talking to.
The other day, I posted a few questions on a Disneyland forum about our upcoming trip. I provided some information about myself, including I would be driving from Portland and listed the ages of the kids for suggestions on new things to see. Imagine my surprise when I got the following reply:
- clearly from your well worded post you must be a published romance novelist. We will be at the park during those exact times. Maybe we can meet up? I just happen to be the sister of a romance novelist and we would probably have a lot in common!
My first thought was what a coincidence. And then I took a look at the user name. It was the same name as one of my sister's old dogs. Yep, my sister figured out who I was by my post! She said she was going to write some really smart ass post, but didn't want to get flamed for being mean to me. Gotta love her!
Her reply led another poster to ask who the romance writer was because she was a romance reader. I emailed her last night. Turns out she has all my Silhouette Romance (and will now look for my Harlequin Romances!) She also lives in Southwest Washington just north of me. A very small world indeed.
Do you have any small world experiences to share?

Thanks a lot. Now I have the Small World song stuck in my head. *g*
It's a small world after all....
I went to a baby shower and ran into a sorority sister (who was married to the host's b-i-l).
Coming back from Europe when the kidlets were little, kidlet #1's pre-school teacher was on the US leg of our flight from Atlanta.
Um, I'm sure there are more, but I can't think of any others.
Hi Melissa,
There was a small bookstore near my home. I knew the owner and have been a customer for years.
Suddenly he sold the store and decided to move somewhere else and he gave me the new address but I lost it and kept trying to remember it with no use.
Years after that with a friend at another bookstore. The store owner and me were standing back to back and he was nothing but my old owner.
Sure It's a small world :)
Sorry, Tori! Sing some words out loud. That will get rid of the ear worm.
Yay on working out Amy. Europe is a great place for small world stories. I had one on a plane to London! Made the flight go really fast!
That's cool about bumping into the bookstore owner again, Mona! I bet he was as surprised as you were.
Um, the closest we've come to something like that, and it's the weirdest things EVER.
1. When Chris and I were young, before we ever met, our parents would take us to the exact same area to watch fireworks. (It's a wonder we never met then!)
2. Our Aunts went to Church together for years.
Weird coincidences I'm sure, but you never know!!
That was funny, your sister's comment, seems like she has a wacky sense of humor! *G*
Have a good day!
I can't remember any small world moments, but too funny what your sister did.
Hi Melissa!
That is just too cute! And coincidental. :-P And all the other comments have "It's a Small World" running through my head now.
That is funny... your sister is really something!
I just had a coincidence... the resident I was working with is the older brother of a guy in my class in high school!
