Paging Dr. Ross

I just got home from the ER. Mackenna was having trouble breathing and chest pain. I phoned our doctor and a nurse from the hospital called us back. She told us to try steam for 20 minutes and she'd call us back. The steam didn't help so we had to go in.

I took her to Emmanuel Hospital in Portland. It's the ER of choice of our pediatrician and pediatric clinic. They have a separate children's ER waiting room complete with a television that plays the Disney Channel. Mackenna smiled when she noticed it. That was good. She hasn't been smiling much today.

The triage nurse said we'd picked a good time to come in. 5 to 8 is the worst. Our wait wasn't very long, and we were quickly ushered into a room.

After so many years of watching ER (okay, George Clooney), I always wondered if there were pediatrician ER docs as hot as Dr. Ross. So far, I haven't met one. Nor have I even glimpsed one in our... (oh boy, are we already past two hands worth of kid ER visits if so I don't want to remember the number.) But let's face it, no mom wants to be the ER, hot doctors or not. In fact, I hope this is our last visit to the ER.

This time wasn't so bad. Mackenna's doctor, female, was nice. So were the two R.N.s, both male. One of the nurses wore a Scooby Doo hat, tie and pants. This brought another smile to Mackenna's face.

She's sound asleep now in our bed. I'm going to keep the inhaler they gave us handy just in case. Hubby is going to sleep on the couch. Angus, who we picked up yesterday, will like the company! He's been sleeping downstairs and on the stair landing. The dog, not hubby.

I hope you're having pleasant dreams! Fingers crossed for a full night of sleep and a much better day!

Hugs to Mackenna and I hope she feels better. How did she sleep through the night?

Oh poor baby. I hope she had a good night!

At least your ER visit wasn't bad... I would have paid money for the Disney Channel when we were in the ER last Friday. They had the TV stuck on some weird entertainment channel with really offensive, foul-mouthed people. It was so exciting to have my 8 y.o. listening to that.

GAH... I've messed up word verification THREE TIMES... I hate them with an all-consuming passion.

Poor MacKenna! I hope today is better and that everyone got a good night's sleep.

Awww, poor MacKenna! I hope she can breathe better today. If it's the inhaler I'm thinking of, they use it for walking pnuemonia, too. We've been blessed that we haven't had too many ER visits for the kids. (Knock on wood.) I will say that civillian hospitals are MUCH better than Military ones.

Please give MacKenna a small hug from us!

Dru - she slept so much better last night. A little tossing and turning, but not a lot of coughing. Huge sigh of relief.

Ah, Marianne - sorry you had to deal with that on your visit. No matter what ER trips are not fun.

Thanks Amy! She slept well. I kept waking up to check on her. Good thing school was delayed two hours due to snow. We all got to sleep in a bit.

Brandy - thanks. today has been a much better day. She just had to use the inhaler once today. I hope this is a turn for the better.

Thanks Tori! She is feeling better.

Sorry to hear about the ER trip. Hoping for a better day for all. My last ER visit with my 4 year old was in December and we were there for most of the day so I can truly sympathize.

So glad to hear she's feeling somewhat better - not sleeping makes everything worse.

I hope Mackenna feels better real soon. I have asthma and know how horrible it is when your having breathing problems. My thoughts are with her and your family.

Thanks Cherie. ERs and kids are just hard all around.

Catslady - she is sleeping much better. Thanks.

Amy - she's doing better. No fever, just glassy eyed, pale and a cough still. Mom's trying to hang in there.

Thanks Michele. This has been a tough one, but we've turned the corner with her now I'm hoping we don't have a repeat with my son.

Dena - hugs on your asthma. I had no idea about breathing issues until now. We've been very fortunate in that area. It's no fun. That's for sure.

Appreciate it, Sarita. Thanks!
