I sometimes wonder what happens to my books after people are finished reading them. Some might end up on keeper shelves, other resold, given away, donated, thrown away, used for paper mache, maybe even burned as kindling on a cold winter's night. Lots of scenarios, right?
Well, here's one I never considered...poetry. Someone has made a website where they've taken books found at thrift stores, removed the binding and blackened out words on a page to form poems. One of the books is my Santa Brought A Son. A google alert last night sent me here.
What do you do with the books you've read?

If the books I have read are autographed I box them up and store them, other books I pass on to friends and relatives. I keep a lot of books.
I think its a bad thing that they have done to one of your books or anyones book. It's just wrong.
I pass a lot of my books along to my grandmother, who lives in a 55+ community (most residents are 75+). They all love to read.
Or, I might donate to the Library's book sale or the paperback exchange racks.
Most of the books I have stay in my library, especially the ones autographed.
The ones I did not like much get donated.
My friends' books I keep. Okay, I keep MOST of my books, but when I do weed some out, they get donated to the local library. I figure if they don't want them for their collection (which they frequently do), they can put them in their book sale.
At the moment I've kept all my books much to my husband's dismay. I'm really running out of room. I do loan them to friends and family. My one daughter will eventually take some of my books and the other probably a smaller amount but that is still going to leave a lot of books. The big joke in our house is they're going to be going with me when I "go" lol. They'll be donated somewhere - I would never, ever, ever throw away a book and I told my family I'll come back and haunt them if they do!!
I have a sister who is in the same position. We always say we could start a library lol.
Ones I feel are keepers, are just that. *G* I place them on my shelves. Others are either donated to the library or taken to the UBS for credit.
On one hand I admire somone for creating poetry. On the other? I don't like the destruction of a perfectly nice book.
(Oh, and your books? On my keeper shelf. *G*) ;)
I hope you're having a great day!
Fascinating! Usually I keep books - I'm a major hoarder, I admit. I think "but what if I want to read it in the future?" And before/generally... I'd only buy books I'd read before and really want to read again. (And again. And again).
Otherwise, I trade books. I like sharing the love and getting some new books of my own.
I have most of my books boxed up and I'm thinking about joining paperback swap and other sites.
I keep my friend's books and my favorite authors and the other I donate to the library or give to my friends.
